・hitch a ride with ～　　～と便乗する

A: I was planning to go to a party tomorrow but my car has broken down. Guess I'll have to take a taxi.
B: You mean Mary's party? My wife and I are going too, so you can just hitch a ride with us. We'll have plenty of room in our car.
A:　明日パーティーに行くつもりでしたが車が故障しちゃった。
　　タクシーに乗らなくちゃと思って。
B:　メアリーのパーティーのことかい？　妻と私も行くので、我々に便乗できますよ。車内には十分なスペースがあります。

■ cut down (on ～ )　　　（～を）減らす、削減する
For those with a sweet tooth, cutting down on one's chocolate consumption can be a real challenge.
