Mr.Clark: What are you looking at there, Jeff?
ジェフ、ねぇ、なにを見ているんだい？

Jeff: Pictures of cars. I'm trying to decide which one to buy. These two here are both about 5 years old but in pretty good condition.
車の写真です。どちらを買うか決めようとしています。こちらの二台は、二台とも約5年経っている車ですがかなりいい状態です。

Mr.Clark: They're used? When it comes to cars, I learned my lesson and now always buy new. If you don't, you're bound to have trouble down the road & spend a lot more on repairs than you've expected.
中古か？　車といえば、私は教訓を学んでいつも新車を買うぞ。そうしないと、キミは将来面倒な目に必ずあって、キミが予想したよりずっと修理にお金がかかる。

Jeff: That's true, but it's still cheaper than buying new, I think.
それはそうですが。新しいものを買うよりやっぱり安いと思います。

Mr.Clark: I wouldn't be so sure. The last used car I had broke down on me just as I was taking an important potential client to the airport. When I tried looking at the engine, I got oil all over my new Italian suit, which ruined it. Then, the client missed his flight, blamed me for everything, and, to add insult to injury, decided not to do business with us! We lost a LOT of money, thanks to that car.
怪しいもんだ（私はそこまで自信ない：私はそう思わない）。最後に所持した中古車で、お客さんになりそうな重要な人を空港まで連れて行く途中にちょうど故障しちゃったんだ。エンジンを見てみたら、オイルを私の新しいイタリア製のスーツにつけてしまい、それを台なしにしてしまった。それから、その客は彼の飛行機に乗りそこねて、私をあらゆることで責めて、そしてひどい目にあわされたうえにわが社と取引をしないと決めた！　我々は沢山のお金を失ったよ、あの車のおかげで。

Jeff: I see. Well, in that case, perhaps I should buy used, then when I have clients to drive around ... maybe I could borrow your car?
なるほど。えーと、それじゃあ、ボクは中古を買ったほうがいいですね。それで車で案内する客がいるとき…あなたの車をお借りできますか？
