どういうこと？

Noriko: Well, as soon as I arrived, I had a meeting with the clients. And
at the very outset, they were grilling me about problems with our software.
あのね、到着してすぐに、クライアントと会議をしたの。それでまさに最初から、彼らはわが社のソフトウェアの問題について私を厳しく問い詰めていたのよ。

Jeff: Really? Well, you know the standard company reply: "We are doing
all we can to keep bugs to a minimum, but they do sometimes occur."
本当？　ねぇ、標準的な企業の対応を知っているでしょ：「私どもはバグを最小にしておくために最善を尽くしておりますが、しかし発生するときもあります」

Noriko: Of course I told them that, but I'm not sure if they were satisfied.
Anyhow, that aside, I have some good news about our proposal to renew their contract.
もちろん彼らにそれを伝えたわ。けど、彼らが納得したか確信がないの。とにかく、それはさておき、彼らとの契約を更新する提案について良い知らせがあるわよ。

Jeff: You mean, they didn't turn it down?!
つまり、彼らはその提案を断らなかったの？！

Noriko: On the contrary, they responded very positively. Hmmm, maybe it had to do with my knowing & telling them some things about California history?
それどころか、彼らは非常に前向きに応じたわ。うーん、たぶんそれはカリフォルニアの歴史について私が知っていることや彼らに語ったことと関係があったかもしれない。

Jeff: Noriko, have you ever considered becoming a politician?
