■soar   急上昇する、急騰する
Investors were happy to see the stock price soar. Some of them nearly doubled their money.
投資家たちは株価上昇を見て満足していた。彼らの中には資金をほぼ倍額にした人もいた。

■snatch up   慌てて買う、ひったくる
In the days following the disaster when supplies were short, people snatched up batteries and flashlights wherever they were for sale.
供給不足のあの災害の後には、電池や懐中電灯が売りに出ているところならどこでも人々は急いで買った。

■a 100-sq.-meter unit  100㎡のマンション一室
The office is only a five-minute walk from the station.
その事務所は駅からたったの徒歩5分です。

■hold off on ~   ~を延ばす、~をためらう
We needed more time to get the information, at least another day or two, so we decided to hold off on making a final decision.

Be sure to put milk in the refrigerator in the summer. If you leave it out overnight, it will turn sour.
夏は必ず牛乳を冷蔵庫の中に入れなさい。もし一晩中外に出したままにしておくと、悪くなるから。

■infrastructure   インフラ基盤
There has not been enough money to spend on maintenance of public infrastructure. As a result, some bridges have had to be closed for long periods of time.
公共インフラの保全に費やす十分なお金がなかった。結果として、長期間閉鎖されなければならない橋もあった。
