Noriko: Jeff, did you hear the news about Martin Mohr, on the board of directors?
ジェフ、取締役会のマーチン・モァーについての知らせについて聞きましたか？

Jeff: You mean that he was let go yesterday? Yeah. Actually, it came as no surprise to me.
彼が昨日解雇されたというはなし？　あぁ。本当のところ、僕は少しもびっくりしなかったよ。

Noriko: Really? How come?
本当？　どうして？

Jeff: Well, he was always telling the board that sales were very unlikely to improve unless big changes were made -- the kind of changes that most were unwilling to make, or even try.
あのね、彼は変革がなされないと販売はあまり改善しそうにないと常に取締役会に言ってばかりいた ―― ほとんどが気が進まなかったし、やってみたくなかったような類いの変革だ。

Noriko: Yes, I sometimes heard people say that he complained a bit too much about the way things are.
そう、私は彼が現状についてちょっと余りにも不満を言っていたと人が言うのを時どき聞いたんだよ。

Jeff: Maybe he did, but you know, thanks o him, the company has had many great successes. Well, I guess the bottom line, though, is that people don't like being told they have to change things, even when it's really necessary.
たぶん彼は言ったでしょうが、しかしねえ、彼のおかげで、会社は多くのすばらしい成功があったんだ。ところで、しかしながら、本音は人は本当に必要な時でさえ、いろいろなことを変革しなければならないと言われるのを嫌がるのだと思う。
