Mr C: Well, I hate to throw cold water on your plans but I need you to work overtime this evening. There was quite a bit of inaccuracy in your last report so you'll have to go through the whole thing and make changes. I hope you didn't shell too much out for the tickets.

Jeff: Sorry. I had some bad luck on the way here.
すみません。来る途中についてなくて。

Mr. Clark: What happened?
何が起きたんだ？

Jeff: Well, I was in my car and all set to leave home when I saw an old woman slip on some ice and fall down on the sidewalk. Naturally, I ran over to help her get back on her feet but ... she'd broken her leg.
あの、車に乗って完全に家を出ようとすると、あるおばあさんが歩道の氷のうえですってんころりとするのを見ちゃって。当然、彼女が元通りに立つのを助けようと駆け寄りましたが……彼女は脚を折っていました。

Mr. Clark: Did you call an ambulance?
キミが救急車を呼んだのか？

Jeff: Of course. When it came about 10 minutes later, though, it was going too fast, spun out of control, went off the road & got stuck in some snow. We did what we could to try and move it but it was really stuck.
もちろんです。それが、10分ほどできたのですが、あまりに速く走っていて、スピンアウトして道から外れて雪にはまっちゃったんです。我々は車を移動させようとできるかぎりしましたが、本当にはまってしまいまして。

Mr. Clark: So what did you do?

Jeff: Well, I volunteered to take the woman to the hospital in my car,
which I did. Great, with that out of the way, I thought I could still make it to work & be somewhat on time. But, just after leaving the hospital, I spun out of control myself and then went into a ditch! I had to walk here from there.
